With all its greatness, the Motown sound for many decades has deserved a grand hall for all the world to see.

Finally, that vision is getting closer.

On Monday, officials announced that construction has begun on the third phase of the project, a two-story space, set to open in summer 2026. This phase will cost $75 million.

"This morning, the Motown Museum made headlines with exciting updates on our highly anticipated expansion," the museum posted on Facebook. "We’re thrilled to announce that our new 40,000-square-foot space will open to the public in the summer of 2026! This is a project unlike any other, promising to elevate the Motown experience to new heights.

"The expansion will feature a stunning new lobby and café, which were revealed today, showcasing a glimpse of the future of the Motown Museum. Inside, visitors can look forward to immersive and interactive exhibits, the Ford Motor Company Theater, and an expanded retail experience. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop this groundbreaking project!"

The museum is at Hitsville U.S.A.'s original headquarters and music recording studio on W. Grand Blvd.
