Tradition: For the 6th Year, Detroit's American Coney Island Will Serve Paczki Coney Dogs on Fat Tuesday

Six years ago, Grace Keros, owner of American Coney Island in downtown Detroit, decided to try something different—Coney dogs on glazed paczki donuts for Fat Tuesday.

This Tuesday, the tradition continues.

“It’s a hit,” she says. “We sell out every year, no matter how many we buy. Last year, we sold 500 Coney paczki, and they were gone by 1 p.m.”

Fat Tuesday marks the culmination of the Carnival season and the day before the start of Lent.

Keros reminds customers that the paczki coneys are served simply on glazed donuts.

“The filling is the hot dog chili, mustard, and onion.”
