Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II has gotten a boost in his bid for governor in 2026 with the endorsement of 11 state lawmakers, The Detroit News reports.

The endorsements are expected to inject some energy into a campaign in which Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has received far more attention as a Democratic candidate. Another Democrat in the race is Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.

"I have had the opportunity to get to know Garlin Gilchrist on a personal level, and I believe he will be a strong advocate to move Michigan forward," state Sen. Veronica Klinefelt of Eastpointe told The News.

The other lawmakers endorsing him, according to The News, are: State Sen. Paul Wojno of Warren and House members Brenda Carter of Pontiac, Kimberly Edwards of Eastpointe, Morgan Foreman of Pittsfield Township, Peter Herzberg of Westland, Donavan McKinney of Detroit, Cynthia Neeley of Flint, Amos O'Neal of Saginaw, Laurie Pohutsky of Livonia, and Mai Xiong of Warren.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has chosen not to endorse her running mate or any other candidate in the race.
