The University of Michigan football staffer linked to fired coach Sherrone Moore saw her salary increase by about $41,000 between 2023 and this season, the British publication Daily Mail reports, citing public records it reviewed.
The staffer, whom the Daily Mail has chosen not to identify, saw her salary rise from $58,025 in 2022 and 2023 to $99,000 in 2025, the publication reports, noting there was no official change in her job title.
U-M announced Wednesday that Moore, 39, was fired for an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, calling it a clear violation of school policy.
Later that day, Moore was arrested and booked into the Washtenaw County Jail in Ann Arbor. Authorities said they were investigating an allegation of assault in Pittsfield Township, and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office was reviewing the case.
Pittsfield Township Police said Wednesday night on Facebook that they were called around 4:10 p.m. to a home in the 3000 Block of Ann Arbor Saline Road, Pittsfield Twp. to investigate an allegation of an assault and that a suspect had been taken into custody. The statement did not mention Moore by name.
Michael James, a former sports writer for the New York Daily News and Detroit News reported on his substack page:
According to sources in Michigan, where the rumors of Moore’s affair have been circulating on messages boards for weeks, the embattled Moore caught wind of coaches meeting closed-door without him and went to the home of the woman and threatened her with a knife.
Meanwhile, The Athletic reports, citing a source briefed on the matter, that the school received an anonymous tip regarding the inappropriate relationship, prompting the investigation.
The publication reports that the investigation initially did not produce enough evidence, but additional proof came to light in the last 24 hours that led to Moore’s dismissal.
Moore has yet to make a court appearance, and formal charges, if any, have not been announced. Multiple media outlets are reporting that prosecutors don't expect to make a decision on charges Thursday.
Jail records show Moore remains behind bars.
Moore has been married since 2015 and has three daughters.
He compiled a 17–8 record in his two seasons as head coach after replacing Jim Harbaugh. The team finished in fourth place this year in the Big Ten.
In 2024, he signed a five-year contract with a starting salary of $5.5 million, plus bonuses.
